Hi Everyone,
Brrrr… the New Year has certainly greeted us with its icy, wintry fingers. I don’t know about you, but this arctic blast has definitely allowed me to take things slow and continue with my resolve to stop putting pressure on myself & return to the basics. Instead of my usual tendency to quickly return to my hectic routine of teaching, freelancing, and workout regimen & yoga practice, I was able to advantage of this time to find some quiet as I snuggled under my cozy blankets to relax & rest the days away (something my body still needed after the busy holidays). As I took this time to find my quiet, I began to think of one of the most basic & fundamental asanas in yoga, Shavasana. For some, Shavasana can be considered to be one of the most difficult poses because it's about the body coming into a total state of relaxed stillness. I myself have found that I sometimes tend to fidget while in this pose as my mind goes a mile a minute. But as you come into this asana, you slowly learn to release those thoughts as you come into a state of relaxation. Not only does it help to relax muscles of the whole body, it can release stress, fatigue, depression, and tension. This pose can also stimulate blood circulation, while it calms the mind, improves concentration & mental health. Finally, after a series of asanas, this can help the body releasing tension throughout the mind & body. So join me this week as we continue to find resolve in our stillness.
